Welcome to the website of the long-term socio-ecological research site
In 2014 the Matschertal /Val di Mazia has been accepted as a research site of the long-term ecological research (LTER) network. Over the past decade, a number of studies and measuring campaigns have been conducted in this valley, located in the heart of the Alps of northern Italy. Continuous monitoring and recording of biotic and abiotic parameters allow scientists to observe climate and land-use changes over a long-term period.
Nomination for the "Euregio environment price" 2016!
The joint project of EURAC and Nature Museum South Tyrol "Living biodiversity" has been nominated for the Environment Price 2016. "Living Biodiversity" ranked among the 10 best of the 63 submitted projects!
Science week 2016
30 experts from Italy and other countries have examined flora and fauna of Val di Mazia. Plants, mosses, birds, reptiles, amphibians, spiders, ants and also beetles, bugs, mites and diatoms were tracked down and identified.
